On Tuesday, Nov. 25, cheers spread across the field at Pecos at 4 p.m. With the Horizon Honors boys in white and Santa Cruz boys in red, it was easy to differentiate who was who when everyone was running around, warming up for an intense soccer match.

The first half began with freshman Cody Steward in the goal. Within minutes of the game starting, a point was scored by Junior Josh Drapkin. Directly afterwards, senior Kyle Hickie was close to scoring another, but the Santa Cruz goalie was able to stop it. Hickie made up for his miss by scoring two goals in a row later on. Senior Nick Valadez also scored two points in a row, and junior Joe Holguin scored one. All of the boys played very intensely, ending the first half of the game with a score of 6-0.

The intensity Horizon Honors had in the first half carried into the second half but so did that of Santa Cruz. Sophomore Spencer Brown was switched into the position of goalie. He had a good save right at the beginning, disallowing the opposing team to score a point yet. The boys kept playing aggressively, but Santa Cruz was able to score two points throughout the half. However, Holguin was able to score another point for his team, finishing off the game at 7-2 in Horizon Honors’ favor.

Overall it was a very exciting game, and the boys of Horizon Honors played very competitively, winning their first match. Their next game will be on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.
