These cookies exhibit the best combination of two separate flavors that most people wouldn’t find savory. Yet, these chocolate-orange cookies took only hour to make and will be one of your favorite cookies to eat.

The best food normally features a combination of odd flavors: the recently popular chicken and waffles, the seasonal candy corn and peanuts, and the classic caramel with sea salt. However wonderful these mouth-watering mixes may be, they can not even compare to the irresistible blend of chocolate and citrus in the best possible cookies that will give their counterparts, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies, snickerdoodles, and sugar cookies, a run for their money.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 tbsp. grated orange (preferably fresh)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¾ cup flour
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • Sugar sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat sugar, brown sugar, cocoa, shortening, and the softened butter together until the dough is light and fluffy.
  2. Add the orange peel, vanilla extract, and egg and blend all ingredients together thoroughly.
  3. Stir in the dry ingredients, flour, baking soda, and salt, blending the mix thoroughly and slowly.
  4. Refrigerate the mix for at least one hour although more time is preferable.
  5. After taking the mix out of the refrigerator, shape the dough into spheres, and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Roll them in the sugar crystals, which are optional but will add texture and decorate to these delicious cookies. Be sure to spread them out as they will spread out while they are baking.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 350°F, and serve. This recipe should yield about two dozen cookies, which are a savory blend of contrasting flavors that you, your family, and your friends will be sure to relish.
