For those of you who don’t know, Relay for Life is an event in support of the American Cancer Society. Relay features fundraising, walking and celebrating loved ones who have fought or who are still battling cancer. Well, this year was Horizon Honors first Relay for Life event. Senior Brogan Taylor, event lead, said, “I think Relay went amazingly! The whole event went smoothly, the luminaria ceremony was touching, all of the attendees were entertained and we more than doubled our goal. I think it was more successful than even the committee imagined.” The secondary principal Cynthia Shaheen gave a “heartwarming speech” as freshman Lauren Bander. A band with students from Horizon Honors – “Sunday at Noon” – played and kept the crowd going, and so did junior Joey Vitagliano. Student council also planned multiple events such as a zumba class and scavenger hunt. Many students, teachers, friends, and survivors alike volunteered their time and attended the event; they walked, danced, and ran to help find a cure for cancer.
