On Jan. 16, 2016, the secondary students received an e-blast inviting all students to suggest a proper name for Horizon Honors’ mascot, the Eagle. Those submissions were due on Jan. 22 for anyone who participated in submitting names.
Horizon Honors received over 600 submissions and have selected their top six: Blaze, Clawford, Flash, Soarin’, Spirit, and Talon. Now it’s time to vote once again to select the final contestant. Many students can’t wait to see what the Eagle’s new name will be. Seventh grader Jordan William says that “naming the eagle it will make everyone grow a bigger connection to the school.” Eighth grader Evan Mills also loved that “the students were able to choose the name and we were able to be part of the whole experience.”
The unveiling of the Eagle’s new name will be during the 20th anniversary festivities in April.
