New Year, New Schedule

The+2013-14+class+schedule+for+secondary+students+consists+of+eight+blocks+of+85-90+minutes+each.++
The 2013-14 class schedule for secondary students consists of eight blocks of 85-90 minutes each.

The 2013-14 school year will bring a new schedule for secondary students of Horizon Honors.  Rather than a schedule of seven classes, next year’s students will have eight blocks.  While keeping the start and end times of the school day at 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., grades 7-12 will have four 85-minute blocks a day.  When asked about this change, Master Teacher Mrs. Shaheen asserted that it “will be more consistent for the students with the removal of a daily block.”  The new schedule will also have a block specifically for Scholastic Lab, a class that provides the opportunity for students to receive academic support and help meeting goals set on Individual Learning Plans.  This class is required for all 7th to 10th grade students and is also available to juniors and seniors in place of release periods.   To learn about more changes for the 2013-14 school year, see the December 20, 2012, letter from Mrs. Emmons, available here:  http://www.horizonclc.org/blog/letter-from-nancy-emmons
