Kalyn McLeod, Columnist
Kalyn McLeod is currently an eighth grader at Horizon Honors Secondary School. This is her second year as a columnist for The Horizon Sun. She is excited for the opportunity to write more articles, and hopes to produce more complex stories this year. McLeod’s other passions include running, painting, and competitive swimming. But her favorite activity is competitive gymnastics. Currently, McLeod is an Xcel Gold Gymnast competing with Gold Medal Gymnastics. Her favorite part of the sport is the feeling of flying through the air, and getting to spend time with teammates. When McLeod is not participating in physical activities, she loves to volunteer in her community. She enjoys volunteering so much in fact, that in grade five she started the Elementary Service Club at Horizon. Currently, McLeod is a member of the National Charity League (NCL), which allows her to volunteer with other girls her age and learn many life skills. McLeod hopes to apply these skills to her future endeavors. McLeod wishes to go to Northern Arizona University after graduating. At this time, her career ambition is to major in biology and animal behavior and hopes to become an Animal Emergency Medical Technician (Animal EMT). Animal EMTs work to rescue animals in danger and get them to safety. This can vary from rescuing a dog from a canal to saving animals from severe animal cruelty cases. McLeod’s love for animals comes from her dog Skye, a two-year-old Australian Labradoodle, and McLeod’s best friend. McLeod’s favorite thing to do after a long day of rigoroushonors classes is cuddle with Skye. She is excited for many adventures in the future and is ready to take on any challenges that come at her.
