Homecoming spirit week is just around the corner. Don’t forget to dress up and show your spirit next week!

Whether you plan on going to the Homecoming events or not, spirit week is a good opportunity to show your school pride. A pep rally will be on Friday, 23 Jan. at 10:30 a.m. in the gym to help get the student body pumped for the Homecoming game that night. If you put the first letter of every day for spirit week, it will spell out “HOCO.”

Human Kindness Day is on Tuesday, 20 Jan. For this spirit day, wear a shirt that represents some community service or charity work you’ve done in the past. You should also be extra kind to all your friends and classmates on this day.

Old Skool Day is on Wednesday, which means students can dress up in clothes from their favorite decade. If you’re not sure what to wear, follow these quick and easy guidelines. The 1920s, also known as “the roaring twenties,” is commonly remembered for the flappers. For outfit inspiration, “The Great Gatsby” starring Leonardo DiCaprio is a good reference. The 1950s was the decade of sock hops and bikers. If you don’t know what to wear, “Grease” was set in the fifties and has some ideas on how to get ready. The 1960s was known for colorblocking and the hemline got a bit shorter, rising to about mid-thigh to knee-length dresses, “Mad Men” is a good show to consider to find inspiration. Disco was big in the 1970s, as you can see in shows like “That 70’s Show.” The 1980s is usually thought of as bright, neon colors but, in reality, people wore clothes as seen in “The Breakfast Club.” Lastly, the 1990s had a lot of denim and plaid. “Clueless” and “Friends” are two good sources for the nineties look.

Thursday is Comfy Day, so Horizon Honors students get to come to school in their favorite pajamas, athletic, or sweat pants. Students can wear their favorite comfy t-shirt or sweatshirt on Thursday.

Finally, Friday is ‘Orizon ‘Omecoming. On Friday, wear your Horizon Honors clothing and look for the hidden H’s around the campus to get free tickets, or reimbursement if you already purchased your tickets, to the Homecoming dance.

All of the school spirit should be preparing you for the Homecoming game on Friday, with the first, JV girls’ basketball, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Homecoming dance will start at 7 p.m. on  Saturday, 24 Jan.
