Our Horizon Honors middle school boys’ basketball A team had a great win against Phoenix Country Day this week. The game took place at our home gym on Thursday, Apr. 13 at 5 p.m.

The first half started off with the Eagles getting the first basket made by eighth grader Mason Harbertson. Ten minutes into the game, the score was at 7 to 23 with the Eagles behind. Eighth graders Andre Nguyen and Stephen McCollum made many solid passes to each other, resulting in numerous baskets. Throughout the game, the boys had back to to to back rebounds and constant communication. As the half was coming to an end, the boys were slowly making a comeback ending the half with a score of 17 to 28 with Horizon Honors losing by 11 points.

The team came back for second half with nothing but determination. Harbertson once again started the half off, scoring some points for Horizon Honors, followed by eighth grader Cameron Taradash making a free throw. The game was a back and forth of each team making shots, up until the end when the boys made their last four winning baskets the last two minutes of the game putting them on top. The final score of the game was 43 to 39.

The team brought back their sixth consecutive win in a row, bringing their record to six wins and only two losses. When asked what his highlight of the season was so far, McCollum responded, saying, “The highlight of the season in my opinion is when Harbertson dunked a basket against Gilbert Christian and we came out on top.” Come show your support at the boys next game on Monday, Apr. 27 at 5 p.m. against Gilbert Christian.
