The start of an ending, Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, Hamas and Israel accepted a 20 point peace plan from U.S President Donald Trump. As stated on BBC News, the conflict started in 1947 and has been building up more and more overtime. The ongoing conflict in the Gaza region eventually transitioned into the war known as, “The Gaza War”, on Oct. 7, 2023.
According to CBS News, in August of 2025, Qatar and Egypt proposed a ceasefire idea that was accepted by Hamas. The ceasefire proposal evolved into the 20 point peace plan. The most recent plan was formed by Trump, and revised by several other people. The points of the first phase in the plan included a ceasefire, hostage exchange, troop withdrawal, and entrance of humanitarian aid.
Israel pledged to continue the war until Hamas were disarmed and further steps in the hostage release were taken. Trump took the matter seriously to be sure this goal happened and was executed successfully.
Ceasefire officially began at noon of Oct. 10, 2025. As The Times of Israel said, the IDF stated it has withdrawn troops around 53% of Gaza, to help support the release of hostages. BBC News reported that this 53% withdrawal is only the start. The withdrawal is indicated to go down further to 40%, then later 15%.
By the 72 hour deadline of Monday, Oct. 13, 2025 the second step in this first phase was completed. The 20 living Israeli hostages were released in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
As stated on ABC News, a significant amount of humanitarian aid is expected to surge into Gaza. Humanitarian aid organizations have expressed their concerns for the amount of resources in Gaza existing currently. Resources such as food, medicine, hygiene products, and clean water are running extremely low. These organizations have begun entering into Gaza and as a part of the agreement, 600 aid trucks per day will be entering the Gaza strip.
Moreover, Trump had traveled to Egypt, Oct. 13, 2025 to participate in the peace ceremony with over 20 world leaders. Trump signed the first phase peace plan along with many other Middle Eastern leaders such as President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This form announced that both sides had officially agreed to this 20 point plan to end this disastrous conflict, ongoing for more than half a century.
Trump has most recently announced phase two of this plan shortly after the release of hostages. AA News reported, the second phase called for addressing Gaza’s post war governance and proposed technocratic Palestinian committee to govern Gaza, and the official disarmament of Hamas.
Overall, these first phases are going smoothly, other than the Israel attacks launched on Thursday, Oct. 16, despite the ceasefire agreement. Other than that, Hamas and Israel released hostages, Trump promised peace, first aid is on the way to Gaza for those in medical danger, and Netanayu gave peace a chance after three years of a life changing war.
