According to MLB, the first five innings ended in a 3-1 with the Mariners winning. After the fifth inning, there was a blank inning where no one scored. In the seventh inning, however, the Blue Jays came back with three runs. Ending the match with the Blue Jays winning and heading to the World Series.
On the Mariners side, the game was thought to be a win in the sixth inning, with the Mariners up by three, but the Blue Jays didn’t give up and fought back. The Mariners let their guard down in the last three innings, giving the Blue Jays the opening they needed to win the game. George Springer, a batter on the Blue Jays, hit a home run with two of the bases loaded, giving the Blue Jays the final points they needed to take home the victory.
Canada and the USA have been at each other’s throats in sports for a long time, making this a showdown between which country will win, with the Blue Jays being from Toronto, and the Dodgers from Los Angeles. While Baseball isn’t the most talked about topic between the two teams, hockey has been the most competitive between the two since the Olympics.
The Dodgers, on the other hand, made their way to the World Series with ease against the Brewers, playing the waiting game to see who will make it to face them in the World Series. The Dodgers picked up Shohei Ohtani, the Fighters pitcher and outfielder, Ohtani was played as both a batter and a pitcher on the Dodgers because of the “Ohtani rule”. Sports Illustrated says that the Ohtani rule states that if a team’s pitcher is the designated hitter, they can play as both a pitcher and a hitter.
According to Yahoo, the win against the Mariners stretched farther than just a win to get to the World Series, it proved wrong what President Donald Trump was threatening about Canada becoming the “51st state” and helped strengthen the hope in the Canadian players. A World Series that proves that Canada isn’t out of the game will help raise the spirits of Canadians around the country.
For the Blue Jays, this is their first time in the World Series since 1993, making this a step up from the last 32 years of losses. Even though the Dodgers have an almost unbeatable track record this season, the Blue Jays still have a chance to win. While the Dodgers have been stepping up their game, so have the other teams, making this World Series one for the ages.
