December 15, 2016
On Monday, Dec. 12, Horizon Honors’ boys’ junior varsity basketball team (4-3) played Veritas Prep (0-6) at home. The team played hard, found opportunities to score, and eventually won the game, 49-26.
To start the game off, the Eagles made a couple of small mistakes, including turnovers and not getting rebounds; this ultimately ended the first quarter 6-6, with sophomore Gabe Knippers getting two steals. After coming off the sidelines, the Eagles came back and managed to score some points because of strong efforts by junior Cameron Klein and sophomores Aizen McCoy and Cody Laflin, ending the second quarter 26-10.
As the Eagles continued to maintain a solid lead, we saw a lot more effort to rebound the ball. The Eagles were able to steal the ball and convert that into points, especially Knippers and sophomore Cameron Taradash – both playing effective defense and offense throughout the second half. They managed to have fewer fouls than in the first half of the game, and taking advantage of Veritas Prep’s offense extensively, the third quarter ended 32-20.
Throughout the 4th quarter, the Eagles dominated with fewer fouls, ending the game 46-26. With a valiant effort from everyone on the team, we were able to get back on track quickly and continue to dominate in the paint. It was definitely a team effort and we are proud of our fellow Eagles.
