A Stellar Franchise

Hey, all you Star Wars fans, “breathe, just breathe.”

Matt Butler, Columnist

Star Wars is arguably one of the greatest movie franchises ever created. With Star Wars bringing in a total franchise gross of a little under $8 billion, each installment making more than the lest. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (TLJ) is the latest of the installments following Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) journey into the force. In the Star Wars universe, there are more movies to follow such as: Solo: a Star Wars Story set to release May 25th, 2018, Episode 9 in 2019, and a recently confirmed Obi-Wan Kenobi movie set to start filming in 2019. For The Last Jedi, Disney decided to go with Rian Johnson for the director instead of J.J Abrams although Abrams is, as of right now, directing Episode 9. Disney was so pleased with Johnson’s work on TLJ that it has been confirmed that he will be directing a trilogy that is believed to steer away from the Skywalker era of the Star Wars universe and range into the Expanded Universe (EU). As a Star Wars fan myself, it would be pleasing to see a possible Old Republic trilogy somewhere along the line but Johnson will be focusing on his own set of characters.

Disney is also expected to release a live-action Star Wars television show, which will be streamed through Disney’s new service that will eventually replace their Netflix ties. Alongside Star Wars on the big screen, there will be a Star Wars video game every year for the next few years. Within video games it would be very entertaining to be able to play a free roam Grand Theft Auto-esque Star Wars game. There are so many possibilities for an open world video game, too many to list. Star Wars isn’t even at the tip of the iceberg, because one of Star Wars’ biggest money makers is set to open in early 2019.

Star Wars Land. This 14-acre expanse is based off of the planet Naboo and is preparing to be the newest addition to Disneyland. There will be two main attractions in Star Wars Land, the first of which includes piloting the Millenium Falcon through an intense mission, and the other a thriller ride set in the midst of a battle between the Rebellion and the First Order. Regardless of age, if you are a Star Wars fan at heart you have much to look forward to.
