A Future Not Too Far Away

“Ready Player One” (a movie based on the book of the same name) has shown us a future where everyone is wrapped around virtual reality. Their whole lives are basically located inside the amazing virtual reality world known as the O.A.S.I.S. (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation). This doesn’t seem too different from the present, though, with everyone wrapped up in their phones. Phones are basically the same as the the O.A.S.I.S. They are another addicting, if less advanced, getaway from the real world.

Virtual reality is already getting very advanced and could soon be just as good as the “Ready Player One” VR future. In the movie, there are special VR visors that fit like swimmer goggles around the wearers eyes. According to Windows Central, we already have something similar to those visors. They are made by a company called Avegant and are called the Avegant Glyphs. These aren’t nearly as good as the movie ones, however, because they are supposedly very uncomfortable and let in some outside light. The Avegant Glyphs are available on Amazon for $269.99.

Haptic Clothing also isn’t a possibility too far away. Haptic Clothing is a type of clothing that allows you to feel the environment around you in VR. It is being developed by a company called Teslasuit. These Teslasuits can simulate temperature and touch sensations. The first availability of this suit should be sometime in 2019.

There are so many things being developed right now that are similar to the movie. Obviously, all of the things we have available to us now aren’t as advanced as “Ready Player One.” Some of these “in the works” machines include smell towers, haptic treadmills, and extremely advanced computers. Our technology is getting there, but we’ll just have to wait a while for it to. Until then, we’ll just have to deal with our dreams of the O.A.S.I.S. becoming reality.
