Some of the most popular parties in the United States include the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, also known as the Grand Old Party (GOP), the Libertarian Party, and the Green Party. In the earlier years of the Democrats, according to History, after they branched out of the Democratic-Republicans due to dissagrement, they supported slavery and opposed civil right reforms. The Republican Party was founded to abolish slavery, says Ballotpedia. The Libertarian Party was formed with the sole belief in libertarianism, which, according to the Cato Institute, is the belief in individual rights, among other related ideals. The Green Party was formed under the same ten values that they are under today, writes Ballotpedia. Some parties have undergone many changes to their ideals since they were founded.

Each of these parties have many views and focus on their own issues. Democrats say that their party focuses on equality, healthcare, and gun control. According to the GOP, Republicans’ eyes are on reduced taxes and preserving the Constitution, as stated in the Party’s platform. The Libertarian Party says that it holds the belief that the government should have little control over citizens. Finally, the Green Party generally believes in ecological awareness, but they also focus on non-violence, sustainability, and gender equity.

Taxes are a very important subject to people of the United States because they directly affect them. According to CNN, Democrats are trying to raise taxes for the upper class. According to The Balance, Republicans believe in tax cuts for “businesses and high income earners.” The Libertarian Party strongly opposes mandatory taxes and believes in “voluntary exchange.” The Green Party believes in lowering taxes on the working class and raising taxes for the super-rich.

Partisanship in the U.S. can get confusing, but it is important that you associate yourself with the right party for you. There are also many more topics and problems that were not addressed. If you would like to find further information on these parties, you can easily find what you are looking for on the party’s platform or website.
