CNN reports that Donald Trump went into the New Hampshire primary election strong with the endorsement of who was once thought to be his greatest challenger, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, allowing him to win the New Hampshire primary election 40,000 votes ahead of Nikki Haley. Despite this victory, the New York Times wrote that the amount of moderate Republicans unable to vote for Trump displays a weakness that the former president will have to overcome in the general election.
In spite of the fact that Donald Trump won both New Hampshire and Iowa, Haley will continue to contest Trump. The Hill reports that Nikki Haley will plan to stay in the race at least until her home state of South Carolina in late February. Trump’s barrage of insults seems to have bolstered his challenger; after Trump’s Victory speech where he bashed his opponent, Nikki Haley, she responded calling his attacks a ‘temper tantrum.’
Ron DeSantis dropped out of the GOP primaries on Sunday, Jan. 2; The Hill writes that after gaining second place positions in the Iowa caucuses, the Republican once thought to stand up to Trump endorsed him, saying “It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance.” This news came only days after Asa Hutchinson and Vivek Ramaswamy dropped out, both of whom will support Donald Trump in New Hampshire and the elections in the days to come.
