The Larry Pieratt Scholarship Fund Dinner was scheduled to occur last Saturday, Feb. 22 but was canceled due to a lack of ticket sales. Not enough tickets were purchased in order to support the scholarship cost. The Scholarship dinner will not be rescheduled for this year, but Betsy Fera, Executive Director of Horizon Community Learning Center, has aspirations for the future:  “Hopefully next year, we’ll look at a different month.”

Although the dinner is canceled, donations are still encouraged. Two options are available: the online link https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/AuctionHome.action?vhost=hclc or paying by check in the office to HCLC.  Fera shared that the scholarship will still be offered to high school seniors.

The Scholarship is based off of three pillars: academic merit, leadership merit, and community service. Academically, the scholarship committee is not looking for an exceptional 4.5 GPA;  rather, they want to ensure that the applicant has put forth effort in all areas. Leadership wise, the committee is looking for non-required leadership opportunities taken, including extracurricular clubs such as student council. As for community service, hours can be accumulated both in and out of school- whether by helping with construction for the school plays or helping the homeless.
