Rutt the Moose was found traveling north and social media has made it their duty to keep an eye on him. They named him Rutt, and have been updating each other via Facebook.
According to AP News, Rutt was first found on the border of Iowa and Minnesota in September, which led to the creation of the Facebook page, “Central MN Moose on the Loose,” which began to get people’s attention. The page had been up since 2018 by the creator, an “Amateur moose-tracker” Brenda Johnson, but has only recently had it grown in popularity. She said Rutt had most likely traveled through North and South Dakota along with Iowa before being spotted in Minnesota. AP News continues, saying that it’s unusual to see moose in southern Minnesota, since they usually dwell in the northern regions of the state.
According to USA Today, Rutt had successfully crossed Interstate-94. The “Moose on the Loose” page has been concerned about this since the group’s founding, when another moose they were tracking was hit and killed by a semi truck while crossing a highway.
The group continues to follow Rutt through his journey, posting pictures if they see him. Johnson says she has no idea of where his final destination is. Some suspect he got lost and is traveling north to find family. Regardless of his destination, the “Moose on the Loose” page will continue to follow him until he is content with where he’s traveling.
