Japan’s first female prime minister, Sanae Takaichi has led the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to their biggest landslide victory in 71 years. This victory has let Takaichi pursue her dream to create a political agenda that she says can split public opinions. A political agenda organizes the year into important political events like deadlines, and elections.
On Feb. 8, 2026, LDP won Japanese House of Representatives elections and was later confirmed on Feb. 10, 2026. The woman responsible for their victory is Sanae Takaichi. She was elected prime minister of Japan’s LDP on Oct. 21, 2025 and has recently just led them to their first win in over 71 years.
This victory has opened a lot more political options for the LDP and has let Takaichi redesign Japan’s policies as she sees fit. They have come out with news that they want to start a political agenda to keep track of their political events and Takaichi claims it would split public opinions as it highlights societal divisions and mobilizes different voter groups. After a press conference, Takaichi has stated she wants to revise Japan’s documents and National Defense Strategy and change Japan’s policies to not produce or share nuclear weapons with any other country, according to NPR.
The LDP has won the House of Representatives election. Their victory has given them several new opportunities like making a new political agenda, changes to Japan’s policies, and ultimately gave them more power.
