In Austin, Texas, on March, 1, 2026, at 12:18 PM EST, a man shot 16 people, killing three of them and injuring the rest. The 53-year-old man was wearing an Iranian flag shirt, making many think that he was committing an act of terrorism.
According to the BBC, the two people who were killed directly during the shooting, Ryder Harrington, 19, and Savitha Shan, 21, were both at Buford’s Bar, a famous bar for university students. The third victim, 30-year-old Jorge Pederson, was confirmed dead after doctors disconnected his life support.
According to CNN, the suspect, 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, was not previously on a watch list for the Federation Bureau of Investigation (FBI), leaving no police on the scene during the shooting. The BBC states that university students reported him as a terrorist because of the recent attacks on Iran and his Iranian flag shirt that said “property of Allah” on it. After the shooting, police found Daigne at an intersection, and proceeded to shoot and kill him. Police were previously dispatched at a more popular bar close to the crime scene.
While many are unsure if the shooting was related to the Iran strikes on Feb. 28th and March 1st, the FBI are investigating if that is true.
