Sports in Session

After the crazy start to this school year, we could all use a little fun. A great way to get involved with school and get in a little friendly competition is by joining a school sport.

Though middle school sports have been postponed, high school sports are back. So far, the ongoing sports include co-ed cross country, co-ed swim and dive, and last but not least, girl’s volleyball. I interviewed the cross country coach, David Sheveland, on how COVID-19 has affected their sports season.

Coach Sheveland states that “there has not been as many meets and practices this year. There are also limited parents and spectators at the meets.” He also included “we have to wear masks during practice and meets, not when running, but when walking up to the starting line and so on.” I asked him about his thoughts on joining sports. He replied with “joining a sport is a great idea, but includes a lot of paperwork. More than last year, especially with the COVID-19 safety agreements.”

Nate Agostini, the Athletic Director at Horizon Honors, says he is working on a plan for the upcoming winter season as well! Be on the lookout for the next sport schedule!
