Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known by his stage name Bad Bunny, is one of the most popular music artists in the world today. The Puerto Rican singer is known for performing mostly in Spanish, despite many of his fans living in the United States. Bad Bunny started controversy in 2026 due to his Grammy speech and performing at the Super Bowl. During Ocasio’s speech at the Grammy’s, he said “ICE out!” which caused a fire between liberals and conservatives about political matters. Along with this, many have said, according to Daily Mail, that his performance was inappropriate and his lyrics were “the most obscene lyrics ever to be performed at a Super Bowl halftime.”, conservative Megan Basham states.

Many people have been wondering what Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show would be like after his “ICE out” Grammy speech. He received la música urbana, urban music, Grammy for his hit album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos”.  Bad Bunny stated, “before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out…we’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans”, according to CBS.

That discussion grew when Bad Bunny was announced as the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer. Some critics questioned if he was “American,” even though people born in Puerto Rico are U.S. citizens, as it is a U.S. territory. Later, others criticized the fact that much of his performance was in Spanish, due to the fact that the Super Bowl audience is mostly English-speaking.

In response, conservative group Turning Point USA  organized an online event called the “All-American Halftime Show,” which they described as a counter to Bad Bunny’s performance. Special performances by Kid Rock, Brantly Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barret were aired on the Turning Point USA’s Youtube Channel. The situation showed how major entertainment events can become part of larger debates about culture, language, and American identity.

Though Bad Bunny may have been controversial for his political statements, his Halftime show brought everyone together to enjoy peace, family, and tradition.
