Boys’ Basketball Makes a Slam Dunk at First Home Games

The Eagles did amazing at their first home game on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, where they won two out of their four games against the Arizona Lutheran Coyotes.

The first home basketball games of the season were on Nov. 29. The junior varsity (JV) girls’ team lost with a score of 10 to 70 but made a great effort. The JV boys’ team won with a score of 44 to 31, while the varsity girls’ team lost with a score of 29 to 35. The varsity boys’ team won with a score of 64 to 30.

The night started off with the JV girls’ game. Sophomore Rebecca Knight played great offense and scored a three-pointer. At halftime, the team had scored six points, while the Coyotes had 44. During the game, freshman Kate Allen injured her knee but played a significant role on defense and offense with many assists. The final score was 10 to 70. Although the Eagles lost, they still showed great teamwork. Sophomore Stephanie Clark said, “It was really exciting, a bit nerve-wracking, but it was really fun.”

Next was the JV boys’ game. Sophomore Gabe Knippers played strong offense, and the boys were winning at halftime with a score of 28 to 22. Juniors Cameron Klein and Cameron Taradash also performed well under the pressure, and the team won the game with a score of 44 to 31.

The varsity girls’ game started out strong with outstanding offense from sophomore Pilar Rivera. The game was close at halftime, with the Eagles losing 13 to 14. Seniors Callie Joiner and Sarah Simminger also played well, but the girls still lost with a score of 29 to 35.

The last game of the night was the varsity boys’ game. Senior Kevin Kim played amazing offense, thanks to many assists from junior Max Allen. At halftime, the boys were winning with a score of 39 to 18. They were able to keep this lead thanks to great offense played by senior Jared Gates, senior Connor Frith, and sophomore Stephen McCollum. The Eagles won by a landslide with a score of 64 to 30.

The Eagles played outstandingly at their first home game, and definitely have an incredible season ahead of them.
