Editor’s Note: Spoilers for season one, two, and three of “XO, Kitty” ahead
After popular demand, the hit drama “XO, Kitty” released its third season. The show is an adaptation of Jenny Han’s “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” “XO, Kitty” is an American/Korean drama that follows the journey of Katherine “Kitty” Song Covey, played by Anne Cathcart, in following her mother’s steps at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS).
In season one, Covey flies to South Korea after finding out that her boyfriend, Dae Heon Kim, is enrolled at KISS. Covey (literally) runs into Yuri Han, and Han directs her to KISS. She is then put into a dorm with all males after the counselors thought she was a guy from her last name, with Kim saying “Song can be a guy’s name. That’s why they assigned you to a guy’s dorm” according to Netflix, episode two. Then, she meets Min Ho Moon and Quincy “Q” Shabazian due to them being dorm mates with her and Kim.
Throughout seasons one and two, we see drama, love triangles, and matchmaking between the friend group. Covey tries to be everywhere all at once. Trying to fix friendships, relationships, and worrying about her own future.
Season one and two follow her time as a sophomore at KISS, while season three celebrates ongoing change as she enters senior year. It starts at the end of sophomore year, where Moon and Covey are seen saying their goodbyes. Covey then decides to ask if she could journey with Moon to his yacht party for the big idol debut of Eunice Kang. At the party, Han gets news spread about her that she went bankrupt after Kim’s family sued her own due to worker mistreatment, according to Yahoo. Along with this, Covey realizes that she was dressed up as wait staff on the boat and is desperate for a change. Covey and Han bumped into each other on the yacht and stole one of Yisoo’s, a fashion designer’s, dresses. It turns out that that dress was made for Kang’s show, and it lit up in front of the whole crowd. Covey decides to run to the beach, where Moon finds her and then tells her about the feelings that they have for each other. “…because I like you Minho. Like I really, really like you. And I really like you too, Covey.” according to Netflix, season three, episode one.
The whole season had a series of heartbreaks, reunions, drama, and everything in between. Season three specialized new characters including Marius, old roommate, Gigi, an old family friend of Moon’s, and Yisoo, a top model fashion designer. Marius starts throwing curveballs in Covey and Moon’s relationship, along with Shabazian and Jintaek Lee. Marius reveals that he invited Gigi, Moon’s very first love, back to Korea and disaster unfolds. Covey starts overthinking after finding that Moon and Gigi are getting a little too close for her liking, along with Moon being too captivated on work. Covey found that Moon lied about going out with Marius and began to doubt him. Moon ended the relationship with “But the problem isn’t me, it’s you. We’re done.” according to Netflix, season three, episode five.
After a turn of events, Han is enrolled into a fashion show and asks Covey for help. Since the whole friend group was against each other, Covey decided to get everyone together to help for Han’s show. Everyone’s relationships were fixed with some talking, besides Covey and Moon’s. In the end, after some communication, Covey and Moon decided that their feelings were too strong to not be together and got back together in the end.
The season was absolutely phenomenal. I truly believe that the drama was fantastic and kept me interested. Along with this, the plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat every episode. I am also super glad that in the end, everyone stayed together. I certainly hope that “XO, Kitty” comes back with a season four following Covey on her journey to college. For now, “XO, Kitty” is a show that should be watched for lovers of romance, drama, and comedy. Hugs and kisses, goodbye “XO, Kitty.”
