On Wednesday, senior Alexa Smythe signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Montana State University – Billings (MSUB). Smythe’s friends, family, and coaches gathered around outside Horizon Honors’ gym to watch.

A letter of intent is when a student athlete signs a contract stating that they will play for that college’s team. Smythe chose MSUB and will officially become a yellowjacket in the fall of 2017.

The Horizon Sun: What are you most excited about for MSUB?

AS: I think the thing that I’m most excited about for the school is just the change, I chose Montana because it’s a lot different than Phoenix; it’s a smaller town. The weather is a lot different— I’m excited for four seasons and just different people. The school’s right downtown and I fell in love right when I went there. As far as volleyball goes, I feel like I can really make an impact and I love the coaches and the team. I’m really excited.

The Horizon Sun congratulates Alexa for building her future, and can’t wait to see her shine.
