As the Horizon Honors 2025-2026 basketball season starts to come to a close, the Horizon Sun wanted to get the players’ thoughts on how they think the season went. The school’s teams did incredibly well, with both Varsity teams advancing to play-ins, and potentially playoffs, there was a lot to cover.
The Sun: What was your score of wins to losses?
Eliana Alcazar (Junior Varsity Girls): I don’t know the exact score but we did have a good season.
Takumi Galloway (Junior Varsity Boys): 11 wins and 4 losses.
Josie Barden (Varsity Girls): Our record was 16 wins and 8 losses.
Hudson Vanderwall (Varsity Boys): We are 17-10.
The Sun: Did you have a favorite game that you played?
EA: No, I didn’t.
TG: I would say the first game of the season against Camp Verde, because we had a huge comeback, being down around 17 points.
JB: My favorite game was our second game against ALA.
HV: My favorite game this season was San Carlos because we upset them and we played at Chandler Gilbert Community College.
The Sun: Are you joining the team next year?
EA: Probably, yeah!
TG: Yeah, for sure.
JB: I am graduating.
HV: I will not be doing the team next year because I’m graduating.
The Sun: Would you recommend it to incoming freshmen?
EA: Yes, if they enjoy the sport.
TG: I would recommend it but don’t show up if you’re not serious about basketball.
JB: Yes, I would recommend.
HV: I would 100% recommend it to freshmen as an opportunity to try something new, or continue doing something that you love.
The Sun: What were your thoughts on the season?
EA: It was really fun playing with my friends and I feel like I have drastically improved from when the season started.
TG: It being my first high school sport, I really enjoyed this season and I’m very excited for next year. I like Coach Wolf and my teammates and I believe we all performed really well and should be proud.
JB: The season had a lot of ups and downs but it was really fun and I will really miss it.
HV: I think we had a great season with a lot of ups and downs and hope we can do something in the playoffs.
Both varsity teams also made it to play-ins, which is a step before playoffs. If they win their play-ins, they’ll make it to the playoffs in a couple weeks!
The Sun: Are you excited for playoffs?
JB: I am very excited for playoffs.
HV: I am so excited for playoffs and hope we can make the regular season count and make it far in playoffs.
All in all, the teams have had an amazing season! Continue to cheer Varsity as they advance into playoffs!
