Laptops have been around since 1987 and have evolved drastically over the years. There have been many types of laptops, different sizes, and different companies that have made them. Computers can help with efficiency, information, and can help people complete their work and assignments.
Laptops are most used for work and school by many students and adults. According to pirg, around 85% of students in secondary school use laptops. The Horizon Sun has interviewed members of the Horizon Secondary School community to see how they use laptops in their daily life.
The Horizon Sun: How helpful is your computer to your work, and do you like doing work on the computer or would you rather do work differently?
Emma Bradley (grade 7): My computer is easy and is helpful to work on. I like doing my work on the computer because it is more organized in my opinion and I don’t have to dig through my binders just to find my papers.
Jamil Jasper (grade 9): My computer is mostly helpful doing work as long as the wifi doesn’t cut off. I think for long essays and english assignments, doing work on the computer is very helpful and for things like mathia.
David Shevland (Digital Citizenship and Technology teacher, personal finance teacher): Of course I do teach a technology class and even my high school class on personal finance is all about online learning. My entire job is using computers to be successful. I do not like going on computers when I go home after work to protect my eyes and my mind from harmful screen time. I am hoping in the future I will have a job that does not require much screen time.
Computers can be a big part of people’s work and jobs and they might have to use them very often. Some people like using them to complete work, and it might make their lives a little bit easier.
