The 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships are a great way for the world to see the future of men’s gymnastics. Many people are unfamiliar with the sport of gymnastics, and don’t know the basics. In gymnastics , gymnasts are expected to compete in 6 different events, more formally called apparatuses, with a balance of difficulty and execution. Gymnasts want to compete the highest difficulty routine, while also keeping the routine as neat as possible.
In the sport of gymnastics, there are judges that give deductions while simultaneously giving credit for skill. To do this, judges have memorized unique symbols for every single skill in gymnastics, in which there is no known amount of skills because it is always changing. In addition, the judges use the Code of Points as their source, which has the symbols and the instructions on how to take deductions, while also how to give credit for skills.
Before the recap, one must understand the different categories of competition. There are all around finals, where gymnasts take part in all events and compete for the best summed score. There are also event finals where gymnasts compete for the highest score on just a singular event. Finally, team finals, where a whole team competes for the best score on all six events.
The competition began with the first day of qualifiers to determine which athletes move on to the finals, where people see the difficult and exciting routines. The start of day two is also the start with all around finals where we see strong routines all around the board with a few falls on pommel horse, and the first routine of the finals performed by Karl Yulo on the Vault Apparatus which consisted of a double twisting Kasamatsu and taking two, three tenth steps that will impact his 15.20 start value greatly. After a few stressful minutes, ends up with a score of 13.466 on vault.
Shifting the focus to the floor apparatus, where Nao Ojima had an outstanding routine, with many sticks and creative elements. After many routines, the final scores were Arsenii Dukhno receiving a score of 82.031 in first place, Nao Ojima with a score of 81.799 in second place, and in third place with an 81.099 score by Lanbin Yang.
In the team finals, China secured first place with a score of 163.095, Japan in second with a score of 162.429, and the United States In third place with a 162.329. One may see the scores, and think to themself about how the scores are so close, and the answer will always be the small things. The U.S. lost from the small things, one extra step, or one foot not pointed. Regardless, always remember that the little things will add up, and they can make a big difference.
As years pass the future of gymnastics will evolve, and as the code gets updated, people will see the true beauty of the sport, and the artistic values it holds.
