Rory McIlroy won his second Masters Tournament on Sunday, April 12, 2026, awarding him with his second green jacket in a row. After his win, reporters asked him his history with golf and what his dreams are in the future. His opponent Scottie Scheffler was ranked the world’s number one golfer for over 175 weeks. He has won two Masters himself, one of them being in 2022 and the other in 2024.
According to CNN, the game itself ended in a close score of a one point lead by McIlroy with 276 points. McIlroy’s first game finished with him having 67 points, the second adding 65, the third with 73, and the last with 71. McIlroy had said his matches during this tournament dealt the most damage to his mind because of the constant strain from the tournament.
His opponent, Scheffler, was only one point behind at 277, with his first game ending in 70 points, the next in 74, the third with 65, and the last resulting in 68. According to Golf Channel, third place was tied up by four different players, Tyrrel Hatton, Russell Henley, Justin Rose, and Cameron Young. They all had 278 points, proving that this tournament wasn’t just close with the top two contenders.
The tournament isn’t just for the jacket and the trophy, as the winner gets a 4.5 million dollar prize along with the jacket and trophy. According to DP World Tour, McIlroy’s prize wasn’t just his money and amenities, his second win in a row placed him in the really small group of people who have won two masters in a row, with the others being Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods.
While he is the fourth in the exclusive club, who knows who will join him in the future.
