Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for The Regular Show Series
Regular Show was an Emmy-winning animated series created by James Garland Quintel, which aired on Cartoon Network from Sep 6, 2010, to Jan 16, 2017. As is stated in the name, the series was just a regular show; at least until the main duo, Mordecai and Rigby, end up bringing chaos wherever they go.
The series was beloved by many young and older audiences during its runtime, and the show’s humor was often random and chaotic, which everyone could relate to. It presented a lot of impactful moments that dove deep into the character’s growth, like how Mordecai desires relationships, or how Benson, the boss of the park, controls his anger. Many have praised the show’s success with some even considering it one of the ‘big three’ of Cartoon Network according to Screen Rant. Unfortunately, on Jan. 16, 2017, the series officially came to an end with one of the park’s employees, Pops, sacrificing himself for community and the other park employees moving on in their lives.
After the ending, many people were devastated by the loss of the show, and fans online had speculated theories that the show would eventually return with a possible new cast of characters or a look into the past of some of the park employees.
According to Fandom, a future production was slowly hinted at on Jun. 12. 2024. Quintel had announced a production of a new series that gained many fans’ attention and theories. On Aug. 17, 2024, Mark Hammil, who voices Skips, announced his return. On Oct. 11, 2024, intern jobs at Warner Brothers studio had listed many shows including Regular Show’s new series title,“Regular Show: The Lost Tapes”. On Aug. 1, 2025, Ben Adams, the character designer for Regular Show, had announced in an interview that there would feature an episode, centered around one of the supporting characters Elieen. On Sep. 13, 2025, head writer Matt Price had stated Lost Tapes would air sometime in 2026. Finally on Mar. 23. 2026, the first teaser poster was revealed globally as well as a teaser trailer on Youtube that was shown two days after.
Lost Tapes announcement had excited old and new fans alike who are now awaiting its arrival. The new series was announced to air on May 11, 2026. As stated by Fandom, the series is said to be airing a half hour special episode along with 44 other episodes, “Lost Tapes” will also stream on Hulu and HBO Max some time in 2026; however there is no release date yet. The cast of the original show was announced to stay the same with Quintel as Mordecai, William Salyers as Rigby, Sam Marin as Benson, Pops, and Muscle Man, Mark Hamill as Skips, Minty Lewis Eileen, and Janie Haddad Tompkins as Margaret.
Currently, no further details on when the show takes place have been announced yet. Most fans theorize that Pops was included in the cast list. The show is set to take place during the time of the main series. ComicBook states since the show was revealed to all be a VHS recording in the last episode, the title refers that the episodes airing in Lost tapes, are in fact lost tapes that show extra parts of the crew’s chaotic adventures.
Quintel will hold a special panel at WonderCon 2026 on Mar. 27. WonderCon 2026 will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. He will be there to announce extra details about Lost Tapes teasing at details of certain episodes.
With the revival of Regular Show, fans are excited to see the nostalgic chaos that Mordecai and Rigby will create, new theories about the characters, and mostly just the fun randomness and excitement their beloved characters will bring to them and new audiences.
