Ingredients:
- 1 medium loaf of bread(brioche or french bread)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups of milk
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 t cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ½ tsp salt
- Zest of 1 orange
- Four ounces of cream cheese
- Powdered sugar (optional)
- Maple syrup (optional)
Instructions:
- Butter a 9×13 baking dish
- Cut the slices of bread in half
- Layer half of the bread slices in the pan and spread cream cheese on the bread
- Place the other half of the bread slices on the cream cheese layer, creating a sandwich
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and orange zest together.
- Pour the mixture over the bread until each slice is covered
- Cover the bread tightly with foil and refrigerate it for 4-12 hours (usually overnight)
- In the morning, take the dish out and let it sit for 15-20 minutes
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and put the bread in the oven WITH the foil for 20 minutes
- Remove the foil and let it bake for an extra 25 minutes, until the top is golden brown
- Let it cool for a little before adding powdered sugar and maple syrup
- Serve!
